Florida Highway Patrol confirmed Wednesday that a 45-year old Kissimmee man was killed and two others were injured in the pre-dawn hours in a near head-on collision on Poinciana Boulevard that involved four vehicles and drivers.
Two women from Kissimmee, a 45-year-old and a 61-year-old, were taken to HCA Hospital Osceola with critical and serious injuries; the 61-year-old's SUV overturned in the crash that happened around 4:15 a.m.
FHP troopers say the man who died in the incident was driving his Mercedes Benz E-Class the wrong way, southbound in the northbound lanes of Poinciana north of Terra Esmeralda Drive, just south of Oren Brown Road. A 50-year-old Kissimmee woman, who was not hurt in the incident, swerved her Chevrolet Silverado to the right to avoid colliding, but the front left of the Mercedes struck rear of the truck. The Mercedes continued on and struck the Hyundai Kona of the 45-year-old, causing her car to rotate into the Jeep Renegade of the 61-year-old; those two cars ran onto the right shoulder, and the Jeep landed on its right side.
The crash, which closed the northbound lanes of Poinciana well into the morning, remains under investigation, FHP says.
