19 more hangars coming to Kissimmee Airport

Construction on new Sheltair s[ace scheduled to be completed by summer 2024

Sheltair has begun construction to expand existing hangar facilities. A total of 19 hangars are expected to result from the fourth phase of Sheltair’s expansion across 2.7 acres on the east side of the airport.

This is the fourth and final phase of the development that was started in 2001, and will greatly increase hangar capacity at the airport. The new expansion will add almost 40,000 square feet of hangar space at the airport. Construction on the hangars is scheduled to be completed by summer 2024, company and city officials said.

Kissimmee announced this week the plans that the company made official in a Dec. 4 release. In that announcement the family-owned company said the new hangars will be large enough to accommodate most single and light twin aircraft. These hangars will be equipped with hydraulic doors tailored to meet the needs of modern-day pilots and will, “Embody the spirit of innovation.”

“This new expansion is a significant investment that reflects the company’s long-term commitment to the City of Kissimmee and the Airport. It further supports driving additional economic growth for the airport and community,” said Todd Anderson, Sheltair Chief Operating Officer.

"Kissimmee Gateway Airport is experiencing significant aviation growth," Shaun Germolus, the City of Kissimmee’s Director of Aviation, said in a city release. "Sheltair's hangar facility expansion will assist us in accommodating the needs of our aviation community and allow for continued positive economic impact to the City of Kissimmee.  We value our partnership with Sheltair and look forward to serving even more pilots and aircraft owners thanks to this expansion."

The Kissimmee airport serves general aviation clients in town for travels to Disney, other multiple theme park areas and Osceola Heritage Park as an alternative to Orlando International Airport. Sheltair also has services at nearby Orlando Executive Airport.
