The City of Kissimmee Fire Department, St. Cloud Fire Rescue and Osceola County Fire Rescue and EMS are again joining forces to participate in the Keep the Wreath Green campaign this holiday season.
In an annual campaign to ensure everyone and every home is safe during the holidays, the Keep the Wreath Green program promotes and encourages residents to follow simple safety tips that can prevent house fires.
Every fire station will have a wreath with all green bulbs. If there is a structure fire within City of Kissimmee limits a green bulb will be replaced with a red bulb.
Residents can partner with fire, EMS and first responder officials to reduce the risk of fire by:
- Ensuring real trees are fresh and watered frequently to prevent the tree from drying out.
- Ensuring all candles and fireplaces are clear of trees, decorations, and other flammable items.
- Always use "UL" rated lights that are free of any nicks or damaged electrical cords, and ensure indoor rated lights are not used outdoors or in wet conditions. On turn off holiday lights when no one is home.
"Through the Keep the Wreath Green campaign it's my goal to keep everyone safe and free of fires that damper the holiday season," Kissimmee Fire Chief Jim Walls said. "Taking just a few moments to follow some easy tips can ensure everyone is safe and can significantly reduce the risk of fire."
