While over 10,000 people came to downtown Kissimmee Friday for the annual "Boo on Broadway" family Halloween event and had a great time, the night was not without incident.
Six children were hurt when a motorized cart fell into reverse gear and struck six children. They received "cuts and scratches" according to one witness.
The cart was parked outside of Three Sisters Speakeasy at the corner of Broadway and Dakin Street. While it was not in use for the event, children were climbing aboard to have pictures taken through the night. Around 9:12 p.m., Just after 9 p.m., listed as the official ending time of the event, the cart slipped into reverse gear while a child was aboard, and it hit six children before it could be stopped by an adult, a City of Kissimmee spokesperson confirmed.
One of the children was flown from the area to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando as a precaution due to "a mechanism of the injuries," city spokesperson James Napier said Saturday, also noting, "All of the children involved are expected to be fine."
The Kissimmee Police Department traffic unit is conducting an investigation into the accident.
Broadway was closed to traffic from 4-11 p.m. Friday for the event.
