Man arrested for stabbing, killing father in Oct. 20 Kissimmee hotel domestic incident

A man involved in a domestic altercation last week in Kissimmee, where police officials say he attacked then ran over his father, has been brought back to Osceola County after he was arrested in Polk County after the incident.

Alberto Jose Gonzalez-Velazquez, 34, who was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, has now been charged with premeditated murder after the victim passed away two days later from the attack. He has since been transported to the Osceola County Jail, where he is held without bond. He made an initial appearance in front of a judge Friday.

Police say the Oct. 20 incident started during an argument between Gonzalez-Velazquez and the victim in a Kissimmee restaurant parking lot, from where the two left in a grey truck. They were later involved in a crash at U.S. Highway 192 and Bass Road, near the west Kissimmee Wal-Mart, and they fled the scene to the Knights Inn Motel farther west on 192.

At the motel, "the domestic altercation escalated, and the suspect attacked the victim," an Osceola Sheriff's release stated. Witnesses there said they saw the younger Gonzalez standing over the elder, identified as Alberto Gonzalez Sr., 72, and stab him multiple times, then get in the truck, run Gonzalez Sr. over, and flee. The elder man was found with seven stab wounds and a lacerated windpipe and taken the HCA Florida Osceola Hospital in Kissimmee, where he died on Oct. 22.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the area of the stabbing, but police did not report gunshot wounds found in their narrative.

Gonzalez-Velazquez fled the hotel and was followed to the Aldi supermarket on Osceola-Polk Line road in Davenport, where Polk Sheriff's deputies who apprehended him said he had fresh blood on his sweater, a bloody face and hands and had a bloody knife in his possession. He was was taken into custody without further incident.

Following an autopsy Monday, the Medical Examiner's office documented the cause of death was a result of a "(sequence of) blunt and sharp force trauma and ruled a homicide, hence the premeditated murder charges.

Osceola court records show Gonzalez-Velazquez is from Riverview, Fla., and has no prior arrests in Osceola County. A victim's identification card shows Gonzalez Sr. resided in Orlando, but had a telephone number registered with a Miami area code.
