Arrest made in March shooting outside Vine Street-OBT restaurant

Kissimmee Police report an arrest has been made in a March 30 shooting that occurred outside a restaurant just north of downtown Kissimmee that left an 18-year-old dead.

Diaquan Doherty, 29, was arrested Wednesday, days after Kissimmee Police say they filed an arrest warrant for murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In that incident, shots were fired in the middle of the afternoon at Mighty Wings at 53 West Vine Street in Kissimmee. The investigation revealed several individuals exchanged gun fire in the parking lot, one person was killed, and another was injured. A stray bullet also hit a car passing by on Vine Street, and an occupant was injured.

Doherty, who was shot in the leg during the incident, was identified as the primary aggressor in the incident, KPD said, and other individuals involved in the shooting returned fire in self-defense. Doherty was determined to have shot and killed Jahkai Mack, 22 at the time of the shooting. Police say Doherty has been booked into the Osceola County Jail without bond.

The incident was one of three fatal shootings reported in Kissimmee in a span of about two weeks. While the shooting took place on March 30, Osceola County court records show he was arrested by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office on May 20 in a Kissimmee shopping center on Vine Street, when deputies followed him because the ATV he was riding had no license tag. He briefly eluded police and, when he was finally stopped, made his body limp and refused to get into the police patrol car. Deputies discovered 8.5 grams of suspected marijuana on him.

Court records also show Doherty has been arrested a number of times in Osceola County for driving unregistered vehicles and driving with a suspended license.
