Leader of the "Parrotheads," Jimmy Buffett passes away Friday at 76

The sun has set in Margaritaville.

Jimmy Buffett, a legend for over five decades with his tropical-laden, laid-back, good-natured country-pop-folk music adored by generations, died Friday at 76.

A cause of death has yet to be announced.

"Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs," his website announced this morning. "He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."

While he's known for handfuls of hits -- "Come Monday", "Fins", "Cheeseburger in Paradise", "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes", "Why Don't We Get Drunk ...", the classic "Margaritaville" was Buffett's only Top 10 hit. He did write three No. 1 best-selling novels: Tales from Margaritaville, Where Is Joe Merchant?, and his memoir A Pirate Looks At Fifty.
