LETTER TO THE EDITOR — Make Poinciana its own county

Make Poinciana its own county

Dear Editor:

Almost 150,000 people live in bondage between Polk and Osceola counties, an independent zone where there are no road signs to speak of or street numbers. The traffic defies description, and without an updated GPS finding your destination is a crapshoot. This area is patrolled by deputies that are not familiar with what goes on there; it is protected against fire by folks who are equally lucky to find the fire.

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their counties. Read and profit thereby. Rise up for a way of life that is becoming to be a thing of the past. They want to live like Angelinos and Gothamists, so let them pay for it and not us. We were dragooned into Kissimmee by a fascist quirk in the law that forced us to become Kissimmee vassals whether we wanted to be or not. We were not even allowed to vote for or against.

Polk County and Osceola County should join forces to make Poinciana its own county. They would be the 23rd largest Florida county by population. They could create their own road department and deal with building new roads or widening others to relieve congestion that rivals Los Angeles or Mexico City. Why should Polk and Osceola pay through the nose for services, that people who have no ties to either county get subsidized for them? Anybody who thinks I am crazy, drive down John Young Parkway and turn left onto Pleasant Hill Road. Drive down a few miles and turn right and enjoy what it must be like to live in Manhattan with a continuous rush hour.
