Solid Rock Church celebrates Caribbean Heritage Month

As Solid Rock Community Church celebrated its annual Caribbean Heritage Month Sunday, it is tradition to not only have a big service, but to have a festival on church grounds.

Island countries such as Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Bahamas and Puerto Rico, shared their famous foods and festivities, reminding attendees about the beauty of unity and diversity across nations. Traditions during the festival such as dancing, food, and the famous flag parade brought the Solid Rock and Kissimmee community together Sunday.

Solid Rock’s Caribbean Heritage weekend not only celebrates everyone’s heritage, but it is another chance to celebrate God’s work in culture and diversity.

Solid Rock Minister Jordan Jack, who is of Trinidadian descent, said, “I love the experience and the culture. Especially the food. I love to enjoy the fellowship from different walks of life. Getting the chance to know my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ meant a lot.”

Jack said he learns something new about other Caribbean nations almost every year.

“I didn’t know that Columbia was also famous for their food, I thought it was just their coffee,” he said, noting celebrating culture is about learning from others as well.

To end the Caribbean Heritage Month, Solid Rock’s overflow of celebration continued at the 11 a.m. Sunday service, including the annual highlight of the national flag parade, a chance for the congregation to shout out their countries while unifying as one Caribbean as an annual tradition.
