More construction ramp closures around 417; Poinciana Parkway lane shift

Work continues on a State Road 417 expansion project, and that will require the closure of some roads that lead north out of Osceola County that locals may use to get to Orlando and points north.

Those closures, that start this weekend and go into next week, include:

Monday to Thursday, May 1-4 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Narcoossee Road under 417 will be closed for bridge work. Northbound drivers will be directed to travel north on SR 417 to Moss Park Road (Exit 23) and follow the detour signs. Southbound drivers will
be directed to travel south on SR 417 to Lake Nona Boulevard to Tavistock Lakes Boulevard to travel to Narcoossee.

Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: The northbound and southbound ramps from Florida’s Turnpike to northbound SR 417 (Exit 251), for bridge work. Drivers will be directed to travel southbound on SR 417 to US 441/South Orange Blossom Trail (Exit 11) and follow the detour signs to get back to north 417.

Wednesday,  from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.: The northbound SR 417 ramps to Florida’s Turnpike (Exit 12) will be closed for bridge work. Drivers will continue on to exit at Landstar Boulevard and follow signs. Thursday, the southbound SR 417 ramps to Florida’s Turnpike will close, drivers will continue on to exit at Orange Blossom Trail and follow signs.

It's all in the name of a a 417 expansion project to add capacity and lanes from International Drive to State Road 528. Some portions are near completion and, the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) says parts through Landstar Boulevard, which regularly congest heavily at drive time (especially in the afternoon and evening) will be completed this fall. The entire project is expected to be complete by summer 2024 (although CFX said the spring earlier this year, for what that's worth).

For Poinciana Parkway drivers, a temporary southbound traffic shift just before the Reedy Creek bridge is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2, between 9 a.m. and noon. Southbound traffic will be shifted to the new Reedy Creek bridge and proceed southward to Marigold Avenue, KOA Street and Cypress Parkway. Drivers should anticipate new traffic patterns and one single lane over the bridge and southward. Northbound traffic patterns will remain as they are.
