St. Cloud boy, 13, involved in fatal Orlando crash early Sunday morning, FHP reports

A 13-year-old from St. Cloud was one of six occupants of an SUV reported stolen early Sunday morning in east Orlando, which Florida Highway Patrol has reported was involved in a deadly crash.

FHP's preliminary reports stated a 15-year-old Orlando male was the driven of a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling south on Dean Road approaching State Road 408 just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle,  which the Orange County Sheriff’s Office advised had been reported stolen, had five passengers ranging from 13 to 16 years old, including the St. Cloud boy. Five of the occupants were transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, and one was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, all with non-life threatening injuries, FHP said.

FHP reports the Santa Fe was traveling above the posted speed limit, ran a red light at the 408 interchange and struck a Toyota 4Runner, which was coming off the eastbound 408 offramp and making a left turn, at a green light, to travel north on Dean Road. The front of the Santa Fe collided with the left side of the 4Runner, driven by a 23-year-old man from Palm Coast. That driver was pronounced deceased on scene. As a result of the impact, the Santa Fe struck a curb in the median and overturned onto its right side.

The crash, which left the intersection and Dean Road closed for nearly seven hours through the late morning, remains under investigation.
