Valencia encourages a safe Spring Break

Last week, with the spring break on the horizon, Valencia College’s Osceola Campus Student Development hosted an event for students encouraging a safe break.

Safe Spring Break offered students booths with short lessons and the necessities needed to have a safe break. Kissimmee Police Department held sessions on selfdefense, how to change a tire and what to do in dangerous situations.

Matthew Lister, Program Advisor at Student Development, highlighted the purpose of the event.

“The learning outcome of Safe Spring Break is to teach students how to have positive decisions and how to perform maintenance themselves in their vehicles, their own bodily health, as well as having positive interactions,” he said. “That includes sexual interaction, how to handle themselves when their car breaks down, how to perform CPR just in case there’s an emergency, all just to give them that edge when they go on spring break.

“Our message is: have fun, but always try to take into account that everyone else is trying to have fun. Don’t put your fun at other peoples’ expense.”

Valencia College continues to show compassion for their students by hosting events like these in and out of campus. If you would like to see more events that Valencia College, Osceola Campus host, follow on Instagram @valencia_osc.
