Union expected to demonstrate at Tuesday's School Board meeting
The Osceola County Education Association rejected a proposed one-time, non-recuring bonus of $1,000 for instructional employees late Thursday, instead opting to continue negotiations with the School Board regarding salaries.
The OCEA requested an 8.7% cost of living adjustment in October 2022, and had been awaiting feedback from the Board, who offered the bonus as a counter to the OCEA’s request.
According to a press release sent out by Emily Gorentz, the instructional vice president for the OCEA, “This counter-proposal ignores employee needs and lacks strategic planning to sustain long-term, high quality educators.”
The OCEA is encouraging employees to attend Tuesday’s Board meeting wearing red to, “Send the message that SDOC employees expect the School Board to provide true respect during these hard economic times.”
