While not confirming it is the missing man, Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez announced Thursday afternoon that investigators have discovered a body that "has the indicators" that it could be Herman McClenton, the 73-year-old man who went missing on Thanksgiving from a vacation rental home in western Osceola County.
He said the body was discovered early Thursday afternoon about a mile from the Secret Key Cove in the Emerald Island Resort, near State Road 429.
"It was in a very tough area, very marshy and chest-deep water. It's amazing a person would even get back there," Lopez said.
Clothing that McClenton was said to be wearing when he disappeared -- a dark shirt, blue jeans and a red hat -- were found near the body, Lopez said. He also said the Medical Examiner's office would investigate the body, and will soon make an official identification in the coming days.
