Questions on Amendment 3

Dear Editor:

On the ballot I just received is a proposed constitutional amendment (Amendment 3) to give additional homestead exemptions to teachers, police officers, firefighters, paramedics and the military. There are many others mentioned, and it leaves grey areas for loose interpretation that it might include doctors, nurses and others.

I have several questions, though I have the greatest respect for all these people and their professions — but where does it end? These folks make higher than normal salaries, and there are many folks with much lower incomes who need help. And, looking at a more practical side of the picture, this would take a great deal of income from our tax base. Where does the money come from to make up the difference?

We would all like lower taxes, but either we have to cut spending drastically or raise taxes somewhere else. Think carefully about this and vote responsibly.

The problem with Darren Soto

The problem with U.S. Rep. Darren Soto is he campaigns as a moderate Democrat, but once elected goes to Washington and votes like a radical left wing socialistic Democrat. He uses a political tactic right out of the Democratic National Committee’s elections playbook; campaign to win by running as a moderate, then vote the way the radical left party leaders tell you to vote. It’s a simple ploy; say one thing, do another and hope the people who voted for you forget what you said, but what did Darren Soto do when he got to Washington?

It appears Mr. Soto is really just radical Alan Grayson dressed in moderate clothing. Mr. Soto voted in favor of the “No War Against Iran Act” with knowledge that in 1979 Iran took our embassy workers hostage and held them for over 400 days. He also knows that every day the Iranian government and those who back it vehemently chant “Death to America” while burning our flag. If Mr. Soto isn’t aware of the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis then he has no business in Congress.

He voted for a House resolution to end the use of United States armed forces to engage in hostilities in or against Iran. Acts, and resolutions like these are outrageous. Even more outrageous, voting in favor of them! His votes, along with those of his fellow radical Democrats, weakened our nation by strengthening the resolve of a major adversary allowing other adversaries like the Taliban, China, North Korea and Russia to take note. But worst of all and sadly of all, his votes put our front line troops in grave danger.

He in favor of hiring 87,000 additional IRS agents (some of which will be armed) to audit and harass middle-class taxpayers. Regardless of what Mr. Soto tells us about his overall voting record or brags about what he is doing for our district, keep in mind his votes in favor of acts and resolutions like those mentioned violate his Congressional Oath of Office which is to defend the United States against “enemies foreign and domestic.”

The people of Florida’s 9th Congressional District are not fairly represented in Washington by Soto, the faux moderate. We are actually represented by a politically far left leaning radical socialistic Democrat from San Francisco, who uses strong-arm tactics to demand weak representatives like Mr. Soto vote her way. Nancy Pelosi’s political beliefs and those of her constituents in California come nowhere close to matching our political beliefs here in Central Florida.
