As we start thinking about a new year in Kissimmee — gosh, 2025 already?!? — an annual tradition is looking forward to Kissimmee Utility Authority’ annual Calendar of Electrical Safety, now in its 31st year.
As usual, KUA invites local students to showcase their artistic expression to promote electrical safety, and encourage young people and their families to maintain awareness of electrical hazards, in the monthly pages of the annual calendar.
The annual contest is open to all Osceola County students enrolled in Kindergarten through fifth grade, including public, charter, private, and homeschooled students.
Students are asked to use crayons, markers or paints to depict an electrical safety topic specified by grade level in the entry form, found online at www.kua.com/calendar. There, you can find the official entry form and contest details.
A panel of local judges will select the 12 best entries to be used for each calendar month and featured in the utility’s safety calendar. Each student who submits an entry will receive a calendar and a chance to win family tickets to Island H20 Water Park near the Margaritaville resort.
The 12 winning students will have their artwork featured in the calendar, and receive a $150 cash prize. A grand prize winner, selected from the 12 winning students, will have artwork featured on the calendar cover along with the student’s name and affixed to one of KUA’s fleet vehicles for one year. The grand prize winner’s school will also receive $750 in art supplies and, to encourage more school-wide participation, the school with the most total entries in the contest will receive $500 in art supplies.
Entries are now being accepted; completed entries must be received at KUA offices, located at 1701 W. Carroll St. in Kissimmee, by Thursday, Oct. 31, after which the list of winners will be announced.
