City of Kissimmee hosts Vine Street Business Network Meetings Aug. 31

The new Vine Street Business Network, among members of the Kissimmee Economic Development O e and the Vine Street Community Redevelopment Agency, will meet for the _rst time on Aug. 31.

Two meetings will be held, at 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., at Florida Technical College at Plaza del Sol (3831 W. Vine St.).

This forum will give business owners along the Vine Street corridor their opportunity to learn what government resources are available. Kissimmee Mayor Olga González and Kissimmee City Manager Mike Steigerwald will be present at the morning session.

HCA Florida Osceola Hospital presents defibrillator to The Osceola Chamber

Last week, HCA Florida Osceola Hospital presented the Osceola Chamber with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a lifesaving device to assist those experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). SCA is a condition that occurs when the heart suddenly stops functioning, usually caused by disturbances in the electrical system of the heart. According to the American Heart Association, more than 356,000 SCAs occur outside a hospital in the U.S. each year. HCA Florida Osceola Hospital has partnered with _e Osceola Chamber to ful_ll a need for lifesaving tools at their location. In addition to AED training, the chamber sta_ will be trained in Hands-Only CPR, as well as Stop _e Bleed (STB) to learn how to stop life-threatening bleeding in a severely injured person.

“We are proud to partner with the Osceola Chamber and provide them with the tools and training needed to help save someone who is experiencing a cardiac event. As our mission states, above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life,” HCA Florida Osceola Hospital CEO David Shimp said.

Kissimmee man honored for 25 years with Averitt Express

Averitt Express recently honored associate Rickey Trowell of Kissimmee for 25 years of service.

He is one of the more than 1,300 active Averitt associates who are members of the company’s “Over 20 Team,” an exclusive group of associates who have served 20 or more years with Averitt. Trowell works out of the Orlando facility for Averitt, a provider of freight transportation and supply chain management solutions.

Little Free Library installed at Island H20

What better way to relax than with a great book in hand and a drink in the other, while kids tire themselves out on numerous water slides and attractions. Island H2O Water Park has now made it possible for guests to enjoy a curated collection of books in partnership with the Osceola Library System, becoming the only water park in Central Florida to o r its own Little Free Library.

Park goers can now pick up a book in the wave pool area.

“We are constantly striving to improve the visitor experience,” said Jim Kunau, general manager for Island H2O Water Park. “Our Little Free Library operates as a book exchange program where park goers can borrow books just like at the library, while also having the opportunity to leave a book of their own for others to enjoy.”

_e Little Free Library initiative is part of a nonpro_t organization whose mission is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries.

LYNX bus service on holiday schedule Sept. 5

LYNX will be operating a holiday schedule on Labor Day, Sept. 5. If a service runs on Sunday, it will o r the same schedule on the holiday.

_e Customer Service Window and Lost & Found will be closed. _e call center will be open its regular hours (8 a.m.-8 p.m.).

ACCESS LYNX will be available to transport all customers with an advance reservation on Labor Day. Customers should call 407-423-8747 to book their trip.
