Toho Water Authority’s Martin Luther King Boulevard administration building is now the Brian L. Wheeler Water Resources Center, named in honor of its founding executive director.
Signage in front of the building and at the lobby entrance were unveiled to showcase the new name during a recent ceremony.
“The four-story building at 951 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Kissimmee stands as a testament to his hard work and perseverance,” a Toho Water release said Tuesday.
Wheeler led Toho Water for 15 years, including overseeing its formation in 2003 by a special act of the Florida Legislature after serving as the City of Kissimmee director of water resources since 1985.
"It is both humbling and an honor to have the building commemorated with my name," said Wheeler, who retired from Toho Water in 2018, and later consulted on a St. Cloud Utilities water issue in 2020. “Having the privilege to serve as director of this organization has been tremendously fulfilling, and seeing it continue to grow and prosper is also incredibly rewarding.”
