Education Foundation celebrates 40 years of scholarship cheers

Wednesday, April 23 was a special night at Osceola Heritage Park.The annual Education Foundation Scholarship Awards Ceremony is usually a must-see, with hundreds of Osceola County’s brightest and best graduating seniors gathered, and numerous local families, groups and charity offering scholarships.

Friends and family gathered for a celebratory luau to honor the 100th birthday of Osceola County resident Robert Belisario, Sr.The party was held at Merrill Gardens, a senior living center located between Kissimmee and Poinciana, where the veteran resides.

New program brings books to babies in Osceola County

Osceola County parents have a new tool to spark their babies’ love for learning. The Osceola Library System and Osceola Community Health Services (OCHS) is launching a “Baby’s First” program to promote early literacy by providing free books and resources during pediatric visits.

Osceola veterans pay tribute and celebrate art in St. Cloud

Saturday was long planned as the date for the second annual Veterans Art Show at the McCormick Institute. However, fate intervened about one week out when the veteran community was informed Marine veteran John Snider, born in 1946, was going to be buried the same morning in Mount Peace Cemetery.

Poinciana Council awards local students scholarships

Four Poinciana-area students were honored with college scholarships at the annual Poinciana Council Scholarship Awards Luncheon.The event is more than a decade old and was held April 22 at Poinciana High School. Chef Juan Alamo and the culinary students of Poinciana High School catered the luncheon.

News Service of Florida: The Florida House on Tuesday gave final approval to a bill that would prevent local governments from adding fluoride to water supplies and take aim at labeling of plant-based products as milk, meat and eggs.
During debates, Republican supporters of the bills repeatedly stressed the public nature of charter schools and pointed to the state’s wholesale move in recent years toward school choice. But Democrats argued the bills would harm traditional public schools, where most children continue to attend..
