Woman charged with attempted murder after stabbing boyfriend and his kids

Osceola County Sheriff's investigators say a woman stabbed her boyfriend and his two children Monday, and is now being kept in jail on no bond.

Doris Espinoza-Rodriguez, 38, has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted felony murder and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and is being held at the Osceola County Jail.

According to police, they responded to a 911 call — the location is not in currently-accessible court records nor was given by Sheriff Marcos Lopez at a press conference Thursday — regarding a stabbing. A 14-year-old boy opened door with apparent stab wounds to chest and shoulder. Deputies entered and found the father holding down Espinoza-Rodriguez, Lopez said, and they took her into custody.

In another bedroom, they found the man's 10-year-old girl with shoulder stab wounds. A paring knife with blood on the blade was found in another room. The father reported Espinoza-Rodriguez had stabbed each of them after an argument that began with the two adults began at a restaurant, and continued to the home. The father said he would call police, and Espinoza-Rodriguez reportedly ran into the home.

The children were flown to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando, where Lopez said they are recovering and improving.

"The 14-year-old tried to intervene, got stabbed, and called 911," Lopez said. "It's amazing what kids can do when in that position. He probably saved the life of his sister while getting stab wounds himself. He's a true hero."

He said he believed Espinoza-Rodriguez originally lived in the home as someone who was renting a room and began a casual relationship with the father, and that she had domestic charges in Arizona.

"I don't know why you wouldn't do a background check on someone renting a room in your home with your children. It sounds like she lost it and went nuts," Lopez said. "It looks like she has some issues."

Espinoza-Rodriguez is set to make a court appearance on Thursday.
