Winter Haven woman killed in chain-reaction Nova Road crash Friday

A 24-year-old woman from Winter Haven was killed and several other Osceola County residents were injured Friday morning in a four-car crash on Nova Road about a mile north of the Deer Park Road intersection, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

Just after 7:30 a.m., Three cars were northbound north of Maplehead Road. A Chevy Silverado driven by a New York man, with two male passengers from Kindred, attempted to pass two other cars in front of him and entered the southbound lane, into the path of a Hyundai Elantra of a male with the female victim as a passenger, per FHP's report. The two cars collided, and the impact caused the Elantra to veer into the northbound lane, striking a Toyota Corolla and Lexus ES driven by a 62-year-old man and 68-year-old woman from St. Cloud respectively.

The Elantra driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The other drivers incurred minor injuries.

Nova Road was closed for a number of hours due to the crash and its investigation, FHP said.
