A Cleveland man was killed Monday morning when he was ejected from the tow truck he was driving following a collision on Poinciana Parkway, the Florida Highway Patrol has reported.
Just before 9:30 a.m., the 24-year-old man died after his truck, hauling a Mercedes-Benz, struck a water tanker truck that was coming from the median of a construction zone on the toll road just south of Marigold Avenue. The FHP report stated the tow truck driver was headed northbound, and entered the direct path of the water tanker, driven by a 65-year-old man from Winter Park. The front left of the tow truck struck the rear of the water truck, and crash caused the younger driver to be ejected from the vehicle; the report says it is "unknown" if he was wearing a seat belt.
The incident caused the northbound side of Poinciana Parkway to be closed for part of the morning.
The older driver was transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
