Suspect in West 192 hookah bar shooting detained

The Florida Highway Patrol and Osceola County Sheriff's Office confirmed that an individual FHP stopped for a modest traffic infraction in Orlando Thursday is a suspect in an October hookah bar fatal shooting.

Daniel Alfredo Cruz, 38, was arrested on State Road 408 after troopers confirmed he had an active warrant for murder in October, tied to an October shooting at the Red Star Restaurant and Hookah Bar on West U.S. Highway 192 that left a woman dead and another man hospitalized.

Cruz was stopped at 11:15 a.m. Thursday in a 2010 Acura for illegal window tint. After making contact with Cruz, troopers confirmed the warrant and was detained and arrested without incident. A loaded pink and white handgun was located in the vehicle, per the FHP report. The suspect and the gun were turned over to OCSO.

FHP sent this tweet Thursday afternoon regarding the arrest of Daniel Cruz.

Reports are that Osceola Sheriff's deputies received a call regarding a shooting at Red Star, which a Yelp! search shows is now closed, at 5 a.m. on Oct. 9. Investigators determined the shooting occurred the night before. Limited details have been released about the shooting, as OCSO stated that an investigation was ongoing.
