Supervisor of Elections: thousands of voters could be “inactive”

Per the Osceola County Supervisor of Elections, some 36,000 registered voters could be labeled “inactive” without responding to the Office.

Osceola SOE reported Monday that, as part of state-mandated voter list maintenance, Florida law calls for certain voters to be labeled “inactive”. Per the office, if a voter has no activity for two election cycles — they haven’t voted, requested a ballot, updated their voter registration or contacted the office — it will trigger this letter.

The letter confirms the voter lives at the same address or has moved, either within or outside the state. Those who respond can also choose to vote by mail in the upcoming election cycle.

The notices, which went out in May, require voters to complete that form and return to the Elections Office within 30 days.

Any voter who received this notice and doesn’t respond will be labeled inactive, and the SOE notes there are roughly 36,000 voters who were sent this notice who have not responded. The total number of registered voters shown on the Osceola County Supervisor of Elections website will change when these voters are labeled inactive, in accordance with Florida law.
