St. Cloud man killed in early Thursday Nova/Deer Park crash

A five-car crash before sunrise Thursday has resulted in the death of a 24-year-old St. Cloud man and serious injuries to three others.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred just after 5:30 a.m. at the intersection of Nova Road and Deer Park Road — about a mile south of where another fatal crash occurred Friday.

Per the FHP report, a 24-year-old Kissimmee man was driving a Kia Sportage southbound on Nova Road approaching Deer Park, where the driver of a Volkswagon Jetta, a 52-year-old Merritt Island man, was waiting to turn left on Deer Park. The Sportage driver swerved into the northbound lane to pass the Jetta, and struck the St. Cloud man headed northbound in a Honda Accord.

The collision collected another northbound driver, a New York man in a Hyundai Sonata, and a southbound driver, another 24-year-old Kissimmee man in a Toyota Camry.

The Honda driver was pronounced deceased on scene; the Sportage, Jetta and Sonata drivers were transported to hospitals with serious but non-life threatening injuries, troopers said.

The crash, which closed both Nova Road and Deer Park Road through the early and mid-morning hours before being cleared just after 11:30 a.m., remains under investigation.
