School News — August's Meet the Teacher days announced; Florida Virtual School Students graduate at in-person ceremony

2025-26 Meet the Teacher Days

While summer break has started for students and teachers, the Osceola County School District is already planning for the 2025-26 school year to start on Aug. 11, just nine weeks from now.

All Osceola students and parents are encouraged to attend their school’s Meet The Teacher events, which will occur: Wednesday, Aug. 6, 3:30-5:30 p.m.: All high schools. Including Osceola County School for the Arts grades 6-12; Thursday, Aug. 7, 3:305:30 p.m.: All middle and K-8 schools; Friday, Aug. 8, 3:30-5:30 p.m.: All elementary schools.

Students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their teachers and classroom environments before the first day of school, which can reduce anxiety and help students feel more comfortable and confident. Meet the Teacher will also provide parents an opportunity to establish a personal connection with their child›s teachers, the School District says, which can facilitate better communication and collaboration throughout the school year. Gaining an understanding of the teachers› approach, expectations, and classroom policies will provide parents with the information they need to support their child›s learning.

 

FLVS students graduate at in-person ceremony

More than 1,250 students received high school diplomas from Florida Virtual Schools May 27 at a ceremony at the University of Central Florida’s ’s Addition Financial Arena. FLVS is the only fully virtual public school district in Florida.

The event highlighted the achievements of students who chose a nontraditional, flexible learning path through school choice and excelled in a rigorous academic environment.

“With over 20% of the Florida Virtual School graduating class achieving summa cum laude More than 1,250 students received their high school diplomas from Florida Virtual Schools on May 27 at a ceremony at the University of Central Florida honors, this milestone is a powerful testament to the effectiveness of online education,” said Dr. Louis Algaze, president and CEO of Florida Virtual School. “It demonstrates that when students are given the flexibility to learn at their own pace, are supported by certified educators, and utilize comprehensive online courses, they can truly excel.”

The event included a keynote address from the President and CEO of FLVS, Dr. Louis Algaze. Four students received $1,000 scholarships from the FLVS Foundation to pursue higher education at a two or four-year college or university.

Graduates will be attending schools like Dartmouth, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Harvard, Metropolitan Music Conservatory, Princeton, Rollins, Penn State and the University of Florida.
