New School District of Osceola County K-8 schools slated to open in the fall of 2024 don’t have names yet — but they have principals.

Their administrative appointments were approved at the Dec. 12 School Board meeting.

Nathan DeRight, who had been the principal at Kissimmee Elementary since 2020, will lead the Knightsbridge school, located on Poinciana Boulevard just north of the Poinciana SunRail station. His two-decade career has been spent in Osceola County, with prior stops at Denn John and Kissimmee Middle schools and East Lake Elementary.

Dustin Sassic, who has been Flora Ridge Elementary’s principal since 2020, will be the first one at the Sunbridge school. He’s been a teacher, dean and assistant principal at Thacker Avenue Elementary and Neptune Middle since 2006.

"Now we get the fun part of picking names, mascots and colors," DeRight told the School Board.

Groundbreaking for both schools occurred early in 2023. The Sunbridge school was touted at its February groundbreaking for being part of a sustainable growth design for the Tavistock-built community that will eventually have 20,000 homes over 15-20 years — and plenty more schools.
