An unidentified man was struck and killed Monday evening while attempting to cross U.S. Highway 192 near Druid Way in Harmony West, Florida Highway Patrol troopers say.
The incident occurred in the eastbound lanes. Troopers say a 2016 Acura TLX was traveling in the inside lane when it struck an adult male pedestrian who was crossing the highway from the center median to the outside shoulder. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.
An unmarked patrol vehicle from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was traveling directly behind the Acura in the same lane. Authorities say debris from the initial impact struck the front of the patrol car, but no additional injuries were reported.
The drivers of both vehicles remained at the scene and were not transported to the hospital.
FHP is withholding the victim’s identity per department policy and is continuing to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
