The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office announced late Tuesday afternoon that six members of the Haitian delegation participating in the
2022 Special Olympics USA Games have been missing from ESPN's Wide World of Sports since Monday afternoon, and that the department is "actively investigating."
Antione Joseph Mithon, 32, Nicholson Fontilus, 20, Peter Mianovich Berlus, 19, Anderson Petit-Frere, 18, Steevenson Jacquet, 24, and Oriol Jean, 18, are members of Haiti's soccer team competing in the Special Olympics games. They were reportedly last seen on Monday around 2:30 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said. They had all turned in their room keys, and left behind their personal bags and belongings.
In a statement from the Special Olympics, the organization said that only one of the six is an athlete with a disability. The rest of them are "delegation members."
In what may be related to this case, the Sheriff's STAR Unit helicopter was visually seen circling downtown Kissimmee just before 4 p.m. Tuesday.
"We are in communication with Walt Disney World, Special Olympics and our Law Enforcement and Federal partners," the Sheriff's Office said in a press release. "At this time, we believe this is an isolated event and do not suspect foul play. We are asking anyone with information to please contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office."
