Osceola County has announced it will host the Osceola County Roads Summit at the Kissimmee Civic Center on May 9 at 10 a.m., a chance for it to share its collaborations with other regional agencies regarding upcoming transit projects.
Attendees will get to hear from the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX), the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 5, Florida's Turnpike Enterprise and MetroPlan Orlando, and are expected to hear about ongoing road projects, future plans, and how these initiatives will ultimately impact the local road network, and drivers.
With multiple billions of dollars in road projects in the planning, or even construction phase, later this year, Osceola County declared Monday that 2023 is its “Year of Transportation.”
Impending widening projects include Simpson Road, Neptune Road and Partin Settlement Road. CFX is partnering with the county on an ambitious toll road network to increase connections to Interstate 4 (via the Poinciana Parkway) and Florida’s Turnpike, via the Southport Connector. The Turnpike is slated to also get added travel lanes south of Osceola Parkway.
“The summit will showcase how these projects and others like them have helped to move the needle on transportation infrastructure in Osceola County,” County Commission Chair Viviana Janer said Monday via a county release. “By working together, the County, CFX, FDOT, Florida's Turnpike Enterprise , and MetroPlan Orlando have launched efforts to improve communities and residents' lives.
“The Osceola Transportation Summit will be an excellent opportunity for residents to learn about the significant improvements in transportation infrastructure that are taking place in their community – and the fact that we are working together, so our efforts are coordinated,” Janer added. “These partnerships have already brought about positive changes, and much more is to come. The County looks forward to continued collaboration with these agencies to create a brighter future for our residents. Progress on the transportation front is truly a cornerstone of community prosperity.”
