Detectives were able to identify Demelo as the last person who had been in contact with the victim, a Sheriff's release said Friday. Detectives met with him, and he provided detailed information about a sexual encounter with the victim set up in an online chat group for sexual encounters. During the encounter, deputies say Demelo beat the victim, inflicted severe injuries, and knocked him unconscious. Mr. Demelo reportedly fled the scene without calling 911 or rendering aid.
