A federal arrest operation Monday led to the recovery of heroin, fentanyl and nearly $5,000 in cash, resulting in the arrests of two people on multiple drug trafficking charges.

Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies assisted federal agents in executing an arrest warrant for Lenin Gonzalez-Casanas, 26.  According to the arrest affidavit, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives and Homeland Security Investigations had been conducting surveillance at the Cane Island Loop location west of Kissimmee prior to the arrest.

Reports said agents saw Gonzalez-Casanas leave the residence and meet briefly with a woman identified as his girlfriend, Markenia Sanchez-Alvarez, at her vehicle in the parking lot. He then returned inside the apartment carrying a red duffel bag. Shortly after, agents moved in to detain Gonzalez-Casanas on the federal warrant.

During the arrest, Sanchez-Alvarez, 22, consented to a search of the bag, which contained multiple items, including a plastic bag with a light blue powdery substance and one containing a pink powder. A digital scale and nearly $5,000 in cash were also found in the bag among other items. When questioned, Sanchez-Alvarez claimed the bag belonged to Gonzalez-Casanas.

Reports stated the substances were later tested and found to be 22.5 grams of heroin and cocaine and 7.8 grams of fentanyl. Neither Gonzalez-Casanas nor Sanchez-Alvarez agreed to speak with investigators and were both charged with trafficking fentanyl (4 grams or more) and trafficking heroin (14 grams or more).

As of midday Tuesday, both remain held in the Osceola County Jail on no bond.
