Osceola County fire officials stated following seven consecutive days of favorable changes to the Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) average in Osceola County, the burn ban in effect since May 29, has been lifted in accordance with the County ordinance.
Osceola's KBDI index is 427 as of Tuesday; without rain, it will go above 500 again, and if it stays there officials may re-institute the ban.
Residents are free to conduct any type of burns, start their grill, and light fireworks with caution, but are advised to continue exercising safe practices.
Even through the burn ban has been lifted, it's best to keep this in mind for fireworks: Section 10-78 of the Osceola County Ordinance governing the burn ban states that the “sale or discharge of a firework by any person or entity within Osceola County, during a burn ban, is hereby prohibited.” ... the ordinance does make an exemption for “a public fireworks display done by a licensed contractor who has completed the County permitting process under the Osceola County code.”
Let's celebrate this 4th of July fireworks at the Kissimmee and St. Cloud lakefronts.
