Osceola County commissioners select Arrington as new chairman

Osceola County commissioners selected Brandon Arrington as chair of the Osceola Board of County Commissioners for the upcoming year on Monday.

Arrington represents Osceola County District 3. First elected to office in 2008, Arrington serves on numerous boards, including current appointments as Osceola County representative on the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) board, the Public Safety Coordinating Council and CareerSource Central Florida, among others.

“In the midst of a COVID-19 pandemic, serving as chair of the County Commission may have never been such an important post,” said Arrington, who was also chair in 2011, 2015 and 2017. “I am humbled by the selection and will do my best to lead the Commission as we seek to overcome the many challenges this crisis has placed on all of us. This Board is committed to providing assistance and resources to our residents and to continue initiatives under our strategic plan that will keep Osceola County on course for a bright future. I look forward to working with our Board to keep Osceola on the path to prosperity.”

During the same meeting, District 2 Commissioner Viviana Janer was selected vice chair.

“COVID-19 cases are rising, so this pandemic and its effects are far from over. Even with a vaccine coming, it is still important for everyone to follow current protective guidelines,” said Janer, who served as chair in 2020 and acknowledged assistance efforts: “The County Commission was able to push out millions of dollars in aid to our residents and businesses. This help spanned the gamut from utility, rent and mortgage payments to funds to help struggling businesses to programs to fight food insecurity and provide rapid training for new job skills. In the meantime, we will continue to advance projects that focus on public safety, infrastructure and our economy.”
