As you enjoy your Monday off -- well, most of you -- keep those who gave their lives in service for our country on your minds on this day of remembrance. We'll see you on Tuesday.
That's the message from city and county administrative offices, government locales, the News-Gazette office, libraries and the Bass Road Resource Recycle Center, and utility customer service centers like KUA and Toho Water Authority that will be closed in remembrance of Memorial Day on Monday. All sanitation routes for Monday, May 26, will be run and collected as scheduled.
While Veteran's Day (Nov. 11) is designated for honoring all who have served the Red, White and Blue in the military, Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of every May, is set aside to remember all those who died in military service.
While there will be a national memorial -- flags will be placed at gravesites for service members buried at Arlington National Cemetery ("Flags In"), and a flag-placing ceremony at 3 p.m. at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider -- at least two other events will occur locally in Osceola County Monday:
A wreath-laying ceremony at Mount Peace Cemetery in St. Cloud (755 10th St.), 10 a.m., and
A 65th Infantry Memorial wreath-laying, flag-raising and service at 65th Infantry Park in Kissimmee (301 Buenaventura Blvd.).
