The new K-8 school opening next fall in Kindred has its man.
The Osceola County School District announced longtime county educator and school administrator Frank Telemko will be the school’s first principal when it opens in August.
Telemko has been the principal at Harmony Middle School since 2019, and previously led Narcoossee Middle and Lakeview Elementary. He has also been an assistant principal at Lakeview and Parkway Middle, and a teacher and dean at Narcoossee and Thacker Avenue Elementary.
The district broke ground on the Kindred school in February 2024. Located right off Cross Prairie Parkway, it, will feature a three-story building with an administration suite, media center, fine arts wing, gymnasium, 400-meter running track with soccer infield, and three full-size exterior basketball courts and cafeteria. As new K-8 schools in the Sunbridge and Knightsbridge communities opened last fall, it will be the third K-8 school in two years to open in Osceola County.
AAA expects record number of holiday travelers to close out ‘24 Floridians are expected to travel in record numbers for the year-end holiday period from Dec. 21-Jan. 1, as AAA says it predicts 7.1 million Floridians will travel 50 miles or more from home. That’s 220,000 more travelers than the previous record high, set last year.
Nationwide, AAA expects 3 million more travelers than last year, with 2.5 million more people on the roads this year. Nationwide, an estimated 107 million will take a road trip of 50 miles or more. That’s just shy of the record of 108 million road travelers–set in the last pre-COVID holiday in 2019.
“Travelers should expect the roads, airports and cruise terminals to be more crowded than normal,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA–The Auto Club Group. “So, finalize your travel plans now and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.”
AAA says Travel volume is being driven by consumer spending as inflation continues to moderate, as strong employment continues to drive rising wages and with inflation leveling off. Consumers are expected to spend nearly 5% more than last year as incomes rise at a similar level.
Holiday gas prices should be comparable to last year. During the last two weeks of 2023, Florida gas prices averaged $3.07 per gallon. Currently, Florida drivers are paying around $3.09 per gallon, AAA says.
