911 call stations installed at Courthouse Square
Three 911 emergency call stations have been installed in the Courthouse Square campus in downtown Kissimmee. They are designed to provide round-the-clock safety and security to the public and employees, establishing a direct connection to the Kissimmee Police Department in the case of an emergency, Osceola County officials said.
“They will optimize emergency response times and ensure that help is readily available in any urgent situation,” said Osceola Commission Chairwoman Viviana Janer. “With these stations, anyone with safety concerns can now easily and instantly communicate with KPD with just the push of a button.”
The 911 emergency stations — distinguishable by their solar panels and blue pole — are available 24/7 and are accessible to both the public and employees. County officials say they’re considering additional stations on the campus in the future.
KUA Board adopts $300 million budget Last week the Kissimmee Utility Authority board of directors approved a $300 million operating and capital budget for fiscal year 2024. The vote came after several Board discussions and a public hearing.
The budget figure is 3% less than the 2023 budget, related primarily to lower expenditures in fuel and purchased power. This budget also marks the utility’s 19th consecutive year without a base rate increase.
The budget maintains 288 full-time equivalent positions, an increase of one, with a 5% market level adjustment for employees. It includes $142 million for fuel and purchased power, $22 million for capital expenditures, $33 million for transfers to the City of Kissimmee, City of St. Cloud, and Osceola County and $46 million in payroll.
It factors in expected 2% customer growth over last fiscal year, and a 1% energy sales increase.
The new budget takes effect Oct. 1.
