KUA Releases 2022 Hurricane Preparedness Guide

With the start of the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season approaching, Kissimmee Utility Authority released its 2022 Osceola Hurricane Handbook, a free, bilingual, comprehensive preparedness guide offered annually to Osceola County residents.

A partnership between KUA, Osceola County, the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud, Toho Water Authority and UF IFAS Extension in Osceola County, the handbook includes information on emergency shelters, evacuation routes, generator safety and power outage restoration as well as helpful telephone numbers, a disaster supplies checklist and a tropical cyclone tracking chart.

The handbook can be downloaded in English and Spanish from KUA’s website at www.kua.com/stormPrinted copies of the bilingual handbook are now available in KUA’s Carroll Street lobby.

“We are so pleased to provide this free resource to the community to assist with their storm preparations every year,” said KUA President and General Manager Brian Horton.  “As you work on your plan, rest assured that KUA is doing the same. We have a team of nearly 300 highly skilled employees ready to respond to severe weather at a moment’s notice.”

LYNX Memorial Day Schedule

LYNX will be operating a holiday schedule on Memorial Day this Morning. (If a service runs on Sunday, it will offer the same schedule on the holiday.)

The Customer Service Window and Lost & Found will be closed. The call center will be open its regular hours (8 a.m to 8 p.m.).

Regular service and customer service hours resume Tuesday.

ACCESS LYNX will be available to transport all customers with an advance reservation on Memorial Day. Customers should call 407-423-8747 to book their trip.

 

College honors for local scholars

Giovanna Luchetti, of Kissimmee, graduated from Campbellsville (Ky.) University.

South New Hampshire University, with its large online presence, announced members of its Winter 2022 Dean’s List, including St. Cloud’s Shaun Meiner and Kissimmee’s Tatiana Diaz, Donald Evans, Jonathan Holland, Alberto Burgos, Tiffany Fleming, Luis Echavarria, Samantha Landgren and Eric Bonner.

Those earning a spot on the school’s President’s List: Jenny Valentin Prieto, Richard Sweitzer, Star Ellis, Rachelle Fougere, BreeAnne Anderson, Holly Barton and Nicole McCrary of St. Cloud; Marques Evans, Cassandra Williams, Rafael Quinones, Alma Morales, Frasier Griffin, Samuel Tribue and Yarlin Serrano of Kissimmee.

George Southern University has recognized Sidney Hopper of Kissimmee to its President’s List.

Darren McCleery, a Electrical Engineering major at Grove City (Pa.) College from Kissimmee, has been named to the Dean's List the Spring 2022 semester.

 

Marquese Carter from St. Cloud is one of 200 students named to the Spring 2022 Dean's List at Iowa Wesleyan University (Mt. Pleasant, Iowa). 

 

 

Calista Phillips of Kissimmee, FL, graduated cum laude May 21 from SUNY Potsdam with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Childhood/Early Childhood Education.

Marissa Angel of Champions Gate, Florida received a Bachelor of Arts from Berea (Ky.) College
