Montego Bay Boulevard set for repairs
Montego Bay Boulevard, north of Siesta Lago Drive to Jamaica Lane, is scheduled for repairs Dec. 5-6 (Monday and Tuesday). Work will be performed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to repair the road surface. The road will not be closed, but will likely be one-laned during the work.
USPS Operation Santa now open, holiday shipping deadlines
A simple and fun way to be a part of another child’s holiday is now open — the U.S. Postal Service’s “Operation Santa.”
The USPS receives thousands of “Letters to Santa” every year. Those letters get carefully reviewed and posted at USPSOperationSanta.com. Generous members of the public can then “adopt” a letter, and purchase a gift to fulfill their wishes. The gifts are then shipped and delivered to letter writers on behalf of the North Pole The deadline to adopt a letter and ship a gift is Dec. 19. Go to the website for all the information.
The Postal Service also reminds those shipping gifts this year that Dec. 17 is the deadline for Retail Ground service, and First-Class service to ensure delivery by Christmas Day. Dec. 19 is the Priority Mail deadline, and Dec. 22 for Priority Mail Express* service.
The busiest time of the season for the Postal Service begins two weeks before Christmas. It’s expected that customer traffic at all Post Office locations will steadily increase beginning the week of Dec. 5. The week of Dec. 12 is anticipated to be the busiest mailing, shipping and delivery week of the season.
To handle this year’s holiday surge, the Postal Service is expanding Sunday deliveries in high package volume locations. Mail carriers will also deliver Priority Mail Express packages on Christmas Day for an additional fee in select locations.
There are temporary price increases in place for shipping through Jan. 22.
