Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez announced Wednesday deputies have arrested a man charged with murder in connection with an April 11 shooting on Kellchris Lane in the Sandalwood community off Boggy Creek Road.

Orvill Osorio-Ortiz, 42, was arrested Tuesday in Pasco County, and charged with first-degree premeditated murder and four counts of attempted murder. He is held in the Pasco County Jail awaiting extradition.

In the shooting, the occupant of a vehicle, Nekko Herrera, 19, was shot, and pronounced dead shortly after the incident at UCF Lake Nona Hospital. The death was ruled a homicide the following day. Another occupant suffered gunshot wounds and was airlifted to a local hospital for medical treatment and remains in stable condition, a Sheriff’s report said.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Osorio-Ortiz on murder charges Tuesday, and the Osceola Homicide Unit apprehended him with help of Pasco deputies.

“This incident all began with a group of young adults exchanging texts about an argument over a girl. It ended in murder. I can’t make this stuff up,” Sheriff Lopez said. “The dispute led to insults ended up in a shooting.”

He said Osorio-Ortiz got involved, armed himself with a Glock handgun and “planned an ambush,” Lopez said, firing into a car with five of those involved as it drove by. Multiple shell cases were found at the shooting location. “Because of a stupid decision, a 19-year-old is dead, a life cut short far too soon, a reminder of the tragedy that can occur when anger meets access to a weapon.”

Lopez said other arrests are possible from this incident.
