Osceola Regional Medical Center and its free-standing emergency departments, Hunter’s Creek ER and Millenia ER, recently partnered with the Kissimmee Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Orlando Police Department for this year’s 20th Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Approximately 100 pounds of unused prescription drugs were collected during this event.
Additionally, Poinciana Medical Center and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office collected 221 pounds of unused prescription drugs during this year’s 20th Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
This initiative, organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), aims to safely dispose of unused expired, unwanted and unused prescription medications. With studies indicating most abused prescription drugs come from family and friends, including from home medicine cabinets, clearing out unused medicine is essential.
Over the past 10-year span of Prescription Drug Take Back Day, the DEA has brought in more than 6,800 tons of prescription drugs. Eight HCA Healthcare facilities participated in this year’s event.
