Following St. Cloud Fire Rescue’s earning a coveted PedReady Gold accreditation, the Kissimmee Fire Department has announced it has achieved its own accolade in pediatric emergency care.
KFD is now the fifth fire department in Florida to earn Gold-Level recognition in the Florida Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Program (PRRP). This designation is awarded by the Florida Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) State Partnership Program and, “Reflects the department’s dedication to delivering exceptional emergency medical services to the community’s youngest patients.”
To earn this certification, the Kissimmee Fire Department underwent a year-long process, to meet a long list of pediatric-specific criteria related to staffing, training, equipment readiness, and onsite assessments.
The certification is valid for three years.
According to the PRRP the Gold Tier is the highest level of recognition and, “Demonstrates the department’s readiness to provide specialized, high-quality care in pediatric emergencies.”
“This accomplishment reflects the hard work and commitment of every member of our team,” said Kissimmee Fire Department Chief Jim Walls. “We take our responsibility seriously to provide the highest level of care for all patients, especially our children. This achievement reflects our dedication to keeping the Kissimmee community safe and prepared.”
The program is a voluntary, statewide initiative that highlights agencies demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing pediatric emergency care, education, and disaster preparedness. With over 300 EMS agencies in Florida, this recognition places the Kissimmee Fire Department among the top of the list in pediatric care preparation.
