The Osceola County Sheriff's Office reports it has made an arrest in a Wednesday fatal shooting at a restaurant adjacent to Old Town on West U.S. Highway 192.
Elijah Travis Mackey, 23, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree premeditated murder and booked into the Osceola County Jail on no bond.
Deputies said they responded to shooting call at the Checkers at 5780 West U.S. 192 just after 10 p.m. Wednesday. They say Mackey, an employee, engaged in a verbal dispute while working with victim Wesley Robertson, a customer, about his food order. The confrontation escalated, leading to Mackey shooting Robertson. Robertson was transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, where he ultimately died from his shooting injuries, a Sheriff's release said.
Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Mackey, arresting him Thursday.
No other information has been made available regarding the case.
This is the same checkers location where longtime manager Betty Jane Wise was shot and killed during a robbery in March 2005. It took a year to make an arrest in the case. Marlo Cobb, then 34, was arrested, pled to a charge of second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. She subsequently withdrew her plea and appealed.
