Today is Giving Tuesday, a global celebration of generosity held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Amid the holiday rush, it offers an opportunity to pause, give back, and support those in need.
Should you choose to support The Salvation Army, financial contributions made on Giving Tuesday help ensure that individuals and families in Central Florida have access to essentials such as food, shelter, and support services throughout the holidays and year-round. Donations stay local, providing real and immediate assistance to neighbors facing hardship.
Each year, The Salvation Army serves thousands of individuals and families through a wide range of community programs, services, emergency financial assistance, and spiritual and emotional support. These efforts are only possible thanks to the generosity of community members. Locally, that mission has been tougher, considering the Salvation Army is still recovering from a fire that gutted its service station near downtown Kissimmee in November 2023.
As it's the Christmas season, the familiar Holiday Kettles are out at local businesses collecting — and the group can use volunteers to help that effort as well — but those who want to give directly to the cause can visit SalvationArmyOrlando.org and/or SalvationArmyOsceola.org to donate, or text GOOD to 24365 to donate instantly.
“We are incredibly grateful to those who choose to give back this Giving Tuesday,” said Major Roger Glick, Area Commander, The Salvation Army. “Every gift, no matter the size, makes a meaningful impact and helps us continue serving the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Among other local organizations that impact lives in Osceola County that could use your support to further their efforts:
Help Now of Osceola; Hope Partnership; The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida (including clubs in Kissimmee, Buenaventura Lakes and St. Cloud); Give Kids the World Village; Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida (reach out to Pantry Planters to be a local pantry and source for food for families).
