Fill your Scouting For Food bags; they'll get collected Saturday

Last weekend, Scouts from Scouting America across Central Florida delivered Scouting for Food collection bags to homes throughout the region. Residents have been encouraged to fill the bags with non-perishable food items (no glass, please) to help restock local food pantries serving families in need.

Scouts will be returning Saturday morning, Nov. 8, to collect the filled bags and deliver them to local food distribution partners.

Each November, Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and their leaders from the Central Florida Council take to neighborhoods across the region as part of Scouting’s annual “Good Turn” for the community. Donations will support organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank and other local food pantries across Central Florida, which are currently in critical need in part to the government shutdown that has cut into federal aid programs.

The annual Scouting for Food project has become one of the region’s largest youth-led community service efforts. Just last year, Scouts of the Central Florida Council collected more than 300,000 pounds of food, benefiting over 50 community and school-based food pantries — demonstrating the Scouting values of service, leadership, and community in action.
