FHP investigating deadly Turnpike crash and driver found submerged in SUV

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating two Osceola County incidents from Friday.

During the afternoon, with the assistance of the Orange County Sheriff's Dive Team, an SUV and its driver were located in a retention pond near an old construction parking lot off Pug Mill Road near Hoagland Boulevard. (Pug Mill is the continuation of Clay Street as it crosses Jack Calhoun Drive).

The vehicle was discovered completely submerged Thursday. FHP is awaiting positive identification of the driver. There's no information currently on when the vehicle entered the pond.

Then, around 4 p.m., FHP investigated a deadly crash on the Turnpike about midway between Yeehaw Junction and the Canoe Creek Service Plaza. According to the report, an SUV driven by a 69-year-old Miami man lost control and overturned onto the guardrail. The driver and a 64-year-old female, who FHP says were not waring seat belts, were ejected from the vehicle, and pronounced dead on the scene. Two other male passengers, ages 18 and 53, also from Miami, were also injured and transported to a hospital.

Both of these incidents remain under investigation.
