A Lakeland woman was killed in a car-versus-pedestrian crash on west U.S. Highway 192 that had the entire roadway closed for over four hours Wednesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, just after 5 a.m. a 22-year-old Kissimmee woman was headed westbound on 192, when she struck the 30-year-old victim, who had walked into the travel lane of the roadway east of Griffen Road. The driver pulled into a nearby parking lot to notify law enforcement of the crash; the driver was not injured. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The investigation resulted in a roadblock that lasted until about 9:30 a.m., according to FHP. Westbound traffic was diverted onto World Drive and west Osceola Parkway, and eastbound traffic had to turn onto Griffen Road toward Interstate 4.

The crash remains under investigation, FHP said.
