Downtown St. Cloud: part of Pennsylvania Avenue to close Wednesday for "next few weeks"

The City of St. Cloud announced Tuesday that Pennsylvania Avenue from 9th to 13th Street will close to vehicular traffic for the next few weeks, starting on Wednesday.

It affects the small businesses and eateries along those four blocks. It's all in the name of getting the downtown revitalization construction project back on schedule after Hurricane Ian delayed some of the construction, city leaders said.

“Hurricane Ian created some delays in the project, and this is the best solution to get the project back on track to have it substantially completed in time for the holiday season,” said St. Cloud Public Works Director Kevin Felblinger. “We will be working with the contractor to maintain pedestrian access to all businesses on Pennsylvania Avenue, including improved signage and pedestrian walkways.”

As blocks of the project are complete, from north to south, they will reopen.

Crews will be reopening blocks from north to south as they are completed.

“We know how important it is for our downtown businesses," Felblinger said. “The City is absolutely committed to doing everything we possibly can to get this project completed in time for the holiday shopping season,”

Free parking is available for downtown area businesses at St. Cloud City Hall, as well as in the First United Methodist parking lot at the corner of 10th Street and Ohio Avenue.
