Deputies make arrest in March ChampionsGate store shooting

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office announced it has made an arrest in a month-old shooting case.

Daymonte Tyree Moore, 19, has been arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of discharging a firearm in public in connection with a March 16 shooting at a ChampionsGate Boulevard store.

At about 8:30 p.m., a clerk reportedly asked Moore for ID when making a tobacco purchase. When employees asked him to leave the store, deputies say Moore continued to verbally confront employees outside, then responded with, "(I'm) about that life," brandished a firearm and shot at employees. Nobody was struck, but a car did sustain damage from a gunshot. Moore then jumped in the passenger seat of a black Kia sedan, driven by a female, and fled.

Cell phone pings showed Moore's cell phone traveled to the area of U.S. Highway 27 and Sand Mine Road. Sheriff Marcus Lopez said that last Tuesday, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit, along with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, located Moore in Lake County. Moore attempted to flee during his apprehension but was taken into custody without incident.

Jail records show he remains held at the Osceola County Jail on no bond. Court records show Moore, who police say is also a suspect in a shooting in Haines City in Polk County, had no prior Osceola County arrest record. He made an initial court appearance Wednesday, and is scheduled for another hearing on Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.

"We've got an individual who refused to show ID when buying tobacco; I remind you, that's the law," Lopez said during a Monday online press conference. "When he gets refused, he gets upset. Not only is this person underage (the Florida minimum age to purchase tobacco products is now 21), then he decides to shoot up the place, all over some Black 'n Milds. Someone could've been killed. A job well done to all those involved. Guess what, he's about that jail life now."
