DAR Joshua Stevens Chapter presents ‘America 250’ event

On Saturday, that Veterans Library of St. Cloud took a step back in time a few hundred years as the Joshua Stevens Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held, “Patriots of the American Revolution,” an event gearing up for the 250th Anniversary celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026.

Presenters at the event were all in Revolutionary War era costume, telling stories of their patriot ancestors: Chaplain Lori Swaby (Patriot John Rockwell - MA), Vice Regent Ginny Brown (Patriot Samuel Allen - NJ), Regent Kim Tennison (Patriot John Sevier - NC) and Elena Oleske (Patriot Peter Eckler—NY). The speakers also presented a segment on the living conditions of soldiers at the time.

“It was so wonderful to hear the details of each Patriots’ service. Each story renewed my gratitude to all the Patriots who sacrificed everything for our country,” Joshua Stevens Chapter Regent Kim Tennison said.

The program ended with an introduction to Chapter Registrar Susie Smith, who instructed attendees on next steps to membership in Daughters of the American Revolution.

A highlight of the afternoon was the drawing for a handmade America 250 quilt crafted by Chapter Vice Regent Ginny Brown. Past Joshua Stevens Chapter Regent Laura Miller was the lucky winner!
